This East Side’s Craig McLaughlin was a Studio 54 bartender in a former life. He remains a boulevardier on the Upper East Side keeping a keen eye on the evolving scene. Though he’s witnessed all stages of public undress, Craig remains a bit astounded by the exhibitionism now on the streets. We speak of the Naked Dressing trend.
Craig’s detailed description of a young woman parading fairly naked on Third Avenue:
“She had this see-through top. You could see her nipples. You could see her areolas. You could see the bumps on her areolas. And they were down to here. (He’s pointing toward his navel.) She was strutting like how great she was. Thinking everyone was staring at her, which they were.”
Craig was too much of a gentleman to photograph the woman, who, he assumes was a sad case desperate for attention.
Was there any dress code at Studio 54? we asked. Oddly there was. Women could get as naked as they wanted. Men, however, were not allowed to take out their “members” for display, if you get our drift
“I couldn’t enforce this rule,” Craig recalls, “but I could inform those who did.”
